Membership

Criteria

Organizations based in Somalia that show independence, impartiality, and adherence to gender equality policies qualify for SCAF membership. Additionally, organizations from other African regions can connect with SCAF by formalizing an agreement

Non-governmental and non-partisan organizations seeking to join the SCAF movement must fulfil these criteria:

1. Experience and Expertise: At least 1 year of active engagement in women’s rights advocacy.

2. Governance: A clear and open management structure with rotating leadership roles.

3. Gender Representation: It is imperative to ensure that a majority of the membership comprises women and that there is an equitable representation of women in management positions.

4. Policies: A dedication to ensuring gender equality through all procedures and practices.

5. Guiding Principles: All strategies, programs, and oversight activities should align with principles of gender equality.

6. Advocacy: It is crucial to express a strong commitment to the protection of women’s human rights in accordance with pertinent international and regional regulations, particularly in the Horn of Africa region, including Somalia.

7. Legal Status and Structure: Clear legal status, defined office structure, and documented constituency.

8. Governance Documents: A constitution and strategic plan.

The applicant will undergo a thorough review to ensure alignment with SCAF’s vision, mission, strategies, code of conduct, and network structure. Approval will be granted once all SCAF policies and standards are met.

Approval of applicants will be decided by consensus of the SCAF Board of Directors.

Upon approval, each member organization is required to remit a $100 membership fee, in addition to a $100 annual subscription. Payment coordination will be handled by the SCAF auditors.
